GETTING STARTED
What are the rental hours?
We're open daily during daylight hours, May through October. The kiosk automatically stops renting between dusk and dawn.
How does the kiosk rental work?
You start at the touchscreen, agree to the waiver, select your craft and rental time, pay, then the locker opens for your paddle and PFD and the craft unlocks.
What payment types are accepted?
Credit cards plus contactless options like Apple Pay and Google Pay.
How old must you be to rent a watercraft?
Anyone renting and operating the kayaks or SUPs should be at least 18 years or older.
How many watercraft are available?
We have 4 single kayaks, two tandem kayaks, and two stand up paddleboards (SUPs)
What are the weight limits?
• Single Sit-On Kayak: up to 300 lbs
• Tandem Sit-On Kayak: up to 500 lbs combined
• Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP): up to 360 lbs
Not sure which craft is right for you? Check out Our Fleet page for more information
Can I make a reservation?
No reservations - our watercraft are first-come first-serve. Just show up and go!
ON THE WATER
Are these sea kayaks? Where should I paddle?
These are recreational sit-on-top kayaks and inflatable SUPs — not sea kayaks. Please stay within the harbor and follow posted route guidance. Route signs at the kiosk show recommended paths with distances and estimated paddle times. If you're not sure where to go, the Historic Waterfront Paddle is a great starting point — see our Location page for details.
RETURNING
How do I return the equipment?
Swipe the same card you used to rent at the kiosk. It matches the last four digits, reopens your locker, and unlocks your return bay. Return the paddle and PFD to the locker, secure the craft, and close the locker door. The kiosk confirms everything is back and finalizes your rental.
What if something isn't secured correctly?
The system checks that the locker door is closed and the craft is properly locked back in before it finalizes your rental. If something's off, it'll let you know so you can sort it before you walk away.
How do I get a receipt?
Text or email us the last four digits of the card you used and we'll send one right over:
• Text or call: 920-320-1115
• Email: simplypaddlellc@gmail.com
GOOD TO KNOW
Are there restrooms near the kiosk?
There are no public restrooms at the launch site — plan accordingly before you head out! The River Point District and nearby downtown Manitowoc have options within a short walk.
Is help available if something goes wrong?
Absolutely. Call or text us at 920-320-1115 and we'll help you troubleshoot quickly. We keep a close eye on the system and want your experience to be Simply Smooth from launch to landing.
